Every year, the University of La Verne of California honors individuals and groups of people who have shown and demonstrated core values through their work. This work is done in the areas of civic and community engagement, diversity and inclusivity, and interfaith cooperation. Peace and justice sits at the center of these core values and honors those who receive The Spirit of a Verne award and what is means. Eligible recipients include undergraduate and graduate students from La Verne University, student clubs or organizations, staff, academic programs, community members, and more. Community Engagement and Interfaith Cooperation
The Spirit of La Verne is broken into categories to determine the best nominee. Two of those categories include ‘community engagement’ and ‘interfaith cooperation.’ Community Engagement honors individuals and groups that have put forth commitment to the value of community engagement and community service. They also particularly acknowledge the importance of relationships needed to build strong communities. As for Interfaith Cooperation Recognition, this honors people and programs that have made a contribution to further interfaith cooperation and spiritual values shared by many traditions.
Perhaps this is why, for 2016, Soheila Azizi is proud to announce that she was nominated and chosen to receive the 2016 Spirit of La Verne in Interfaith Cooperation and Community Engagement! She will be recognized this year for her specific dedication and efforts in these areas, making a tangible difference in the community of La Verne. La Verne University wants to publicly acknowledge her contributions to society.
On Tuesday, April 26 from 5:00-7:00 at the La Verne Church of the Brethren, Soheila Azizi will be receiving her award at the Spirit of La Verne Recognition Ceremony and Reception. Soheila has commented that she is humbled to be in the rank of other past and present nominees whom she admires and loves so much.
Soheila Azizi has dedicated her life and honor to the people and communities within California ever since she has made the state her home. Because of this, many people within the community respect her and support her, especially through her recent judgeship campaign. She wants to thank everybody for their ongoing support and commitment to her values and beliefs in what will make communities grow and strengthen.
